THE RETURN OF STUPID

It is with great pride and excitement that I am able to announce that Park Avenue BBQ & Grille is bringing back its original hot sauce.

In 1988, I started the Park Avenue chain with the philosophy that if I created the recipes that I liked, eventually I would find some customers that agreed with me. After coming up with our recipe for PA’s barbeque sauce, I made another recipe for what would be our hot sauce.

I made a hot sauce that I loved. I must mention that I am a hot sauce fan. To me, a great hot sauce should have an irresistible flavor, not to mention quite a bit of burn, and a little bit of perspiration.

With these two sauces we set out to conquer the BBQ world.

The problem was some of my customers would accidentally put a tad too much of our hot sauce on their food. We knew this because they would be red faced, waving their arms, and wildly screaming for water. In most cases, we had to prepare another meal for the customer who went a little wild with the sauce.

One day, a customer called me over and asked why I had made the sauce so darn hot, to which I replied, “That’s the way I like it!” The customer sat quietly for a moment and then blurted out, “Well that’s just STUPID!”

The very next day, with great sadness, I changed the recipe for our hot sauce. This meant that I would have to prepare my own personal hot sauce to use when visiting my restaurants. And so I spent the next 19 years doing so.

If effect, I had broken my own rule. Better late than never, I had decided to fix that, for myself and for lovers of hot sauce.

Beginning 10/7/09, Park Avenue will offer three BBQ sauce versions, mild, hot, and the original “STUPID.”

We took home the Bronze!!!!

We are very proud to announce that our team won THIRD place in last night's Great Grown Up Spelling Bee. The competition was tough with teams from Florida Atlantic University, PBCC, Florida Cyrstals, Scripps Research Institute and many others.

Our team was made up of two Park Avenue employees, (Malinda Ratliff and Erin Dalton) and one Park Avenue customer (Carol Rudolph).

Congratulations to all of the teams who participated in the event this year. We had a blast!

Tonight is the Night!

The nerves are beginning to kick in as we prepare to take the stage for tonight's Annual Great Grown Up Spelling Bee. Our team of three has been preparing for the bee over the past month or so in hopes of taking home the trophy this year. In previous years, we have made it pretty far, but this year, with the help of our "secret weapon" a.k.a. Carol, we are sure to give the other teams a run for their money.

It's always nice to have support and so we are seeking out some "cheerleaders" who will root and shout for us throughout tonight's event. It is free for patrons to come out so feel free to come on down.

The event details are as follows:

Location: Harriet Himmel Theatre in CityPlace, West Palm Beach
Time: 6PM - 9PM

If you have any further questions or would like more information on signing up for your own team for next year's event, call Malinda at 561-694-2091.

We hope to see some of you tonight, until then, wish us luck!

First and Foremost

Being brand new to the blogging community, we're hoping to jump right in and get up to speed with the rest of the 21st century. This week is a big week for Park Avenue. We are currently working on two big events.

First, is the Annual Great Grown Up Spelling Bee. Each year, The Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition hosts an event to raise money and awareness for literacy among our children and adults. The Annual Spelling Bee attracts some big businesses and organizations, including Palm Beach Post, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Crystals, and of course Park Avenue BBQ to name a few. Businesses sponsor teams of three adult spellers who compete at the live event on September 17th, 2009 at the Harriet Himmel Theatre in CityPlace. For more information about the event, log on to http://www.literacypbc.org/

In addition to the spelling bee, Park Avenue recently teamed up with ESPN 760 radio to create the Superstar of the Month contest. Local youth athletes are nominated if they have improved and/or excelled in sports, education, teamwork, leadership or have made a contribution to their family or community. Today marks the first day of voting for the first 6 nominees. Nominations are being accepted for October's contest by submitting a letter of nomination to superstar@espn760.com
